Because of the low flow and low pressure, water is distributed more slowly. Roots fare better because of an even moisture content in the soil, rather than being flooded by the use of sprinkler systems. There is also a saving of water usage due to less run off.
Benefits of Drip Irrigation
The use of emitters in low pressure irrigation systems allows for the water supplied to be targeted at the roots of the crops or plants being grown.
Placing the water at the roots has the benefit of cutting down on disease that can be caused by continuous water contact with foliage or fruit, as would be the case with sprinkler systems.
This system is in excess
of
equivalent to a maximum, water head of approximately
efficient compared to a sprinkler system which is normally
efficient.
